In Spring 2020, as COVID-19 cases surged and people were confined to our homes, Sunmi decided to bring great music to those who needed it most – patients, their families, and frontline healthcare workers. Having just graduated with a Doctorate in Violin Performance from the University of Michigan and inspired by Notes of Hope in Boston, Sunmi recruited 68 fellow Michigan musicians to perform a series of 30 video performances for participating hospitals in Michigan.
As a gesture of thanks to healthcare frontline workers, the Michigan Hospital Project streamed a performance every weekday at 10 AM on our website, Facebook page, and at participating hospitals in Michigan for six weeks in July and August 2020.
At times reaching over 13,200 people online, we were so grateful to hear from healthcare workers that the performances introduced moments of comfort and calm in otherwise difficult and frenetic days. All of our Michigan Hospital Project performances can be viewed below on our website.
