Praised as “dazzling” (The New York Times), “expert andversatile” (The New Yorker), and “a fearless and inquisitive violinist” (SanFrancisco Classical Voice), Owen Dalby leads a rich musical life as a soloist,chamber musician, new and early music expert, orchestral concertmaster, andeducator. From 2015-2024 Owen was a member of the renowned St Lawrence StringQuartet, who were one of the most active classical music ensembles in theworld. With SLSQ Owen released acclaimed recordings, regularly toured the majorchamber music series in North America and Europe, and performed as soloist withthe LA Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra andthe NHK Philharmonic (Tokyo).
Much in-demand as a soloist, collaborator andeducator for the first decade of his career in NYC, Owen was a 2010 graduate ofEnsemble Connect, a joint fellowship program of Carnegie Hall and the JuilliardSchool. He is now regularly invited to perform at series and festivals all overthe world including both Spoleto Festivals (USA and Italy), Norfolk, YellowBarn, Music in the Vineyards, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, and many others.In addition to maintaining a violin studio and co-directing the chamber musicprogram at Stanford University where he is Artist-in-Residence, Owen has beenguest faculty at the Yale Summer School of Music, the Britten-Pears YoungArtists Program (UK), Eastman School of Music, Princeton University, and theSan Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Owen received early violin and chamber musictraining with Anne Crowden at the Crowden School, and bachelor’s and master’sdegrees from Yale University. With his wife, violist Meena Bhasin, Owen isco-Artistic and Executive Director of Noe Music, a concert series in SanFrancisco, where they make their home with their two children. Owen performs onthe “Fetzer” Stradivarius made in Cremona in 1694.
