Hyobi Sim

Violist Hyobi Sim made her debut at the age of 13 at the Kumho Prodigy Concert in South Korea. Since then, she has won numerous awards, including the Special Prize at the Lionel Tertis International ViolaCompetition, first place at the Music Chunchu Competition, Hanjeon Arts CenterCompetition, and the Grand Prize at the Korea-US International MusicCompetition.

She has performed worldwide at various venues, including the New York Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, 92nd Street Y, Sydney Opera House, and others as part of tours. Additionally, she has regularly participated in chamber music performances at the Seoul Spring Festival, Chamber Music Festival of the Black Hills, Kumho Asiana Soloists, and the Accordo from Schubert Club.Sim has collaborated with notable musicians such as Gary Hoffman, Olivier Doise, Pamela Frank, Daniel Phillips, Steven Tenenbom, Steven Isserlis, and Jeremy Denk.

She has also performed as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra,Korean Symphony Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, and Guri SymphonyOrchestra. Sim has toured Puerto Rico with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra under the baton of conductor Christian Zacharias.

She actively engages in performances through events such as the Kumho Rising Star Concert, Kumho Young Artists Concert, and Yeongsan GraceHall Recital. Additionally, she has been invited as the principal violist to perform with the Seoul Arts Center Orchestra, Cabrillo Festival of ContemporaryMusic in Santa Cruz, and with the Australian Chamber Orchestra as part of tours throughout Australia.

Currently, she holds the position of Assistant Principal Viola in the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and teaches students at Macalester College.
