Cynthia Anderson

Cynthia Babin Anderson is Professor of Oboe at West Virginia University. She received her bachelor's degree from Northwestern University in Chicago and her master's degree from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Her principal teachers were Ray Still, Principal Oboist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Joseph Robinson, Principal Oboist with the New York Philharmonic and Thomas Stacy, Solo English Horn with the New York Philharmonic. She is a member of the Pittsburgh Opera and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Orchestras, the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, solo oboe/English horn with the Pittsburgh CLO Orchestra and Broadway Across America/Pittsburgh Orchestra, and is a frequent performer with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and West Virginia Symphony Orchestra.

She is in demand as a chamber musician as well, performing with the Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh, Resonance Works Chamber Orchestra, and the Wheeling Symphony Wind Quintet. She is a founding member of the WVU Faculty Chamber Players, and founder and principal arranger for the WVU Double Reed Ensemble, which performs classical and pops repertoire throughout WV. With double reed colleagues at WVU, she has initiated the WVU Statewide Studio, an organization that makes double reed instruments, reeds, and lessons available at no charge to school students throughout West Virginia. She has performed with orchestras and chamber ensembles in Italy, Mexico, and the Netherlands.
